Strain Deposits
We can safely store commercially valuable strains as a backup, and also provide a deposit service for strains with associated intellectual property. Curating nearly 3000 strains on behalf of the UK and international science community over many decades, we know how to keep your strains safe. We culture them in either a continuously growing state or, if possible, cryopreserve and store them in liquid nitrogen. We are an International Depositary Authority under the Budapest Treaty for strains associated with patent applications.
CCAP accepts strains of non-pathogenic microalgae, cyanobacteria, protozoa and small seaweeds for deposit into our public collection or for safe storage:
Standard Deposit
Strains are entered into the CCAP catalogue and made available to the scientific community. There is no charge to the depositor to make a standard deposit, but CCAP reserves the right to refuse acceptance of any strain that does not meet its quality standards, is of no scientific interest, has time intensive maintenance requirments, or for any other justifiable reason.
Confidential Deposit
Strains are given a CCAP accession number, but are not entered into the catalogue, and are stored in a separate area to the general collection. There is a charge (initial, and then annual) depending on the level of maintenance required. CCAP will accept most microalgae, protozoa, cyanobacteria and small seaweeds that fall under Hazard Group 1.
